The price of natural gas has dropped in recent years, thanks to improvements in technology.
But that’s not to say that you can’t find cheaper ways to save money with your home.
Here are six ways to make your home cleaner, and find ways to get it even more eco-friendly.
1.
Replace your carpet cleaners with liquid soap and water solution If you buy your carpet from a carpet cleaner, you should be familiar with their liquid soap/water solution.
If you don’t, here’s how to get started.
To use liquid soap: Take two cups of water and mix it with a small amount of baking soda.
Then pour the mixture into a glass jar.
Shake the jar around and add a small drop of soap.
Shake it more and more until the soap is absorbed into the mixture.
If your carpet cleaner is a non-permanent fixture, you can also use a plastic bottle filled with water to mix with the mixture in the bottle.
(Or use a small bottle of dishwashing liquid and a sponge to mix the soap.)
Add the liquid soap to your water and vinegar mixture, shake it well, and then put it in a jar.
The liquid soap will leave a very fine paste that will be easy to clean.
For some people, it’s okay to leave this paste in the liquid as it makes it easier to scrub your carpet.
This is a great way to clean a dirty floor.
2.
Use a scrub brush to clean your carpet if you have one The simplest way to get a carpet scrub to work is to use a scrubber brush.
Simply use a sponge or your hand to brush your carpet and then rinse the area with a water-based cleaner.
(You can buy a scrubberside kit from carpet cleaner suppliers, but this method may be easier to use if you don,t have access to a professionally trained carpet cleaner.)
For a more sophisticated method, try rubbing your carpet with a cloth to clean it.
This also works, but you’ll need to clean the cloth in a dishwasher to do so.
If that doesn’t work, you’ll also need to scrub the area again with a rag, using a rag with a rubberized bristles.
After the carpet is scrubbed, add the scrubber to the water and paste mixture, and rinse thoroughly.
3.
Use an aerosol cleaner to clean an empty space around your carpet A sprayer or brush is a handy alternative to a scrub or carpet cleaner.
If all you have is a towel, spray the carpet with the aerosol and scrub your entire carpet.
After a few minutes, rinse the entire carpet in the same solution, and add the aerosols to the solution to finish the job.
4.
Use dry-cleaning foam to clean carpets If you want a cleaner, more eco friendly carpet that doesn,t require a lot of maintenance, you might consider using a dry-cleaner.
This will help you eliminate odors that can be a problem.
For more information, see our article on how to use dry cleaners to clean carpet.
For the most cost-effective option, look for a product that can absorb a lot more odors, such as a foam carpet cleaner or a vacuum cleaner.
5.
Add a wet-cleaned area to your carpet to get rid of stubborn stains When your carpet is dirty, you may want to add a wet area to help remove stains.
To add a new wet area, spray a small spray bottle full of water or vinegar into a clean, dry spot.
Rub the area around the carpet, and use a rag to wash the area.
You can also add a dry towel or dry cloth to help keep the stains out.
(See this video to learn how to add and remove wet spots.)
6.
Replace old carpet cleaners If your carpets are old and you can find cheaper, less-effective carpet cleaners, consider replacing them with liquid solutions.
These will have a longer shelf life than your carpet-cleanser solution.
Here’s how.
1, Spray a small splash of water on your carpet (or sponge) and let it sit for a few seconds.
The water will absorb odors and create a sticky paste that is easier to clean and remove.
You should now have a clean carpet and a very clean floor.
You’ll want to scrub around the edges and in any crevices.
This step is optional, but if you want to keep your carpet in place, it might help.
2, Fill the spray bottle with vinegar and add it to the carpet.
Pour the vinegar solution into a small container, then pour it into the water or spray bottle.
Shake well, then add a few drops of vinegar solution.
Shake and stir for a couple minutes.
This process will create a layer of vinegar on the carpet that will absorb and remove odors.
The vinegar solution will absorb the odors off the carpet for about a week.
